I am an old sea dog with salt water in my veins. I have made a good living doing other things but boating Is my #1 passion
I was "lucky" and got my first boat at 8 years old, my first sailboat at 13. The hook was set deep for a lifetime of fun on the water. I made a good living doing other things and always had boats and boating as my #1 fun activity. I have chartered and captained boats all my life and all over the world. When Covid came along, I decided to leave the corporate world and pursue my dream of being a full-time professional licensed Captain. I got “better than official” with a 50 ton Master's Captains license with a Sailing endorsement.
When I submitted the paperwork for my license, my instructor commented
"This is the most interesting resume I have ever seen. Most people have only 1 or 2 boats....you have.. like 40". For me, the documentation was easy cause I take lots of photos. With so much boating, it was a thrill to start exploring new opportunities and leave the corporate world behind. Every day is filled with opportunities for fun and adventure on the water. I am truly blessed to finally pursue my heart's dream job. I am fully vaccinated, have great people skills, and best of all, over 50 years of saltwater fun under my belt. I don’t do politics, drugs, smoke, or drama. I prefer to HAVE FUN and make people happy. Authorized to work in the US for any employer. Willing to relocate anywhere there is water and boats. Currently I am an intern instructor with NauticEd teaching sailing and boat handling on 40’+ sailing catamarans and monohulls helping new boat owners get the skills necessary to take their new boats out and back safely. My Coast Guard license has been upgraded thru experience and testing to a 100 ton near coastal with unlimited radar, aux sail with towing assist endorsements.
Captain, Allen Marine Tours, Ketchikan, Alaska
Here I am a designated Captain on 48' and 65' custom jet boats operating in Southeast Alaska. I do whale watching, wildlife tours, and beach landings....on the rocks! These boats are custom made and LOTS of fun to drive. with over 1500 horsepower, we can transport 30-50 people to remote destinations with ease. With 20' tide swings 4 times a day navigation is a constant challenge.
Second Mate -Alaska Dream Cruise – Sitka, Alaska “Chichagof Dream”. 178.3’ 80 passenger 28 crew cruise ship, 1600 tons
Seasonal from May to October 2024. Duties included driving, safety compliance, route planning and vessel operation, supervise deck crew in ship operations and off vessel activities including Kayak and tender operations. Also responsible for communication over the radio and the ships PA system involving environmental, navigation, and safety matters. On my watch I navigated the ship through icebergs using radar and visual observation from the entrance of the glacier fiords up to the glacier, operation of off vessel activities, and movement of the ship out of the fiords to the next destination. Driving of the vessel was mostly through highly turbulent and narrow waterways. This summer we travelled over 6000 miles with over 1200 guests filling their bucket list daily.
Sailboat Captain, Key West Florida
I am a registered Captain for several of the bareboat charter companies in Key West. Before Hurricane season, I was a regular Captain on large Catamarans, notably a 52' Lagoon, 50' Lagoon, 48' Fontaine Pajot, 40' Bali, 52' Nautitech, and a 42' custom Corinthian pontoon boat, and a 48' Jeanneau. With over 50 charters its hard to tell where to begin. Lots of newfound friends from all over the world. MY Christmas list grew substantially over my stay here in Key West. It was a true honor to be able to take families out on vacation and share my love of the sea with them. It has created a new and extended family for me.
Yacht Racing Highlights
My yacht racing background consists of well over 100 races on about 20 boats ranging from a J24 to a Skye 51 ketch. The distances range from 5 mile bay races to multi day offshore regattas traveling over 1500 miles offshore. We had finishes ranging from first in a fleet of 150 boats, to DFL in a fleet of 300. I could go on for hours here, but stories are available on request.
Havana Cup (1500 miles), 3-Regatta De Amigos (1200 miles each) 15-Harvest Moon Regatta (320 miles each), 2-Chicago-Macinak (320 miles each) 12-Freeport Triangle (110 miles each), 10-Heald Bank (110 miles each), 100-GBCA Rum races (15 miles each), 4-Reggae Regatta (15 miles each), 2-Mermaid Regatta (15 miles each), 5-Lukemia Cup (15 miles each), 10-GBCA Icicle Series (15 miles each) and several more I can’t find the T-shirts or pictures for.
After so much sailing under my belt, I have many tricks up my sleeves. I roll up my sleeves and bring them for racing long distances offshore with outstanding results
